Gallbladder cancer

Can gallbladder cancer be prevented?

Gallbladder cancer is rare – in 2013, 1,932 cases were diagnosed in the UK.

The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ connected to the liver. It stores bile, a liquid that helps your body digest fats.

We have strong evidence from our research that being overweight or obese increases your risk of gallbladder cancer.

Our gallbladder cancer statistics show that about one in six cases of gallbladder cancer could be prevented if we were all a healthy weight.

Try our Body Mass Index calculator to see if you are a healthy weight for your height.
