Budweiser sponsorship of the FA Cup

Beer and football: a good mix?

Beer and football: a good mix?

The news that Budweiser will be sponsoring the FA Cup is disappointing.

Whatever good commercial reasons there may be for selecting Budweiser as a sponsor, it is bad news from a health perspective.

Many children enjoy watching football, so the fact that one of the main football tournaments is sponsored by Budweiser means that lots of children are going to be exposed to the marketing of an alcoholic drink.

Expensive wine: still a cancer risk factor

Expensive wine: still a cancer risk factor

There is an interesting debate going on in Australia following a warning from the Cancer Council Australia that drinking alcohol increases cancer risk.

This reflects the findings of our Expert Report, which is the most comprehensive report ever published on how what we eat and drink affects our cancer risk.

Before the reception to launch the report, I took part in a discussion about the issues surrounding alcohol and health and Cancer Research UK and Bowel Cancer UK were also represented.

I was pleased to hear them both draw attention to the strength of scientific evidence that … Continue Reading

Huffington Post mentions our alcohol press release

Our press release about lower alcohol wines has been mentioned in a blog post by Susan Yager on the Huffington Post website.

Hopefully this article will help raise awareness that there is now strong scientific evidence that alcohol increases cancer risk.

When we last commissioned YouGov to ask people about cancer risk factors, just 47% thought alcohol increases cancer risk.

So we still have a long way to go in getting the message across.
